Training Manager
With experience in missions, pastoral ministry, church planting, and executive leadership at a missions agency, Joel now serves Upstream Collective as a church engagement specialist. Joel seeks to mobilize churches to fulfill their God-given role of training, sending, and caring well for their missionaries. Joel consults with churches, oversees Upstream's church-equipping training, and assists with integrating the equipping and sending divisions of this ministry. Joel and Mary are raising 4 kids (Jacob, Annie, Solomon, and ZJ), and attend Patterson Park Church in Beavercreek, Ohio.
Joel's ministry revolves around one central claim - the church owns missions. The outworking of this idea has important implications for both the sending church and the missions agency. Churches are learning how to send missionaries well through mobilization, training, support, shepherding, and strategic leadership. Mission agencies are adapting their practices to better serve churches. Joel coaches churches in church-centered missions, and he serves missions agencies by coaching the churches that send through them to become healthy sending churches.
