Church Examples of Missions Vision Statements

By Mike Easton

As you begin the process of developing a missions vision for your church, it is helpful to see examples of missions vision statements from other churches. These examples are from a wide variety of churches and contexts. Utilize these examples to help you get started in developing a missions vision statement that flows from your church’s overall vision.

Sample Vision Statements

The vision of our Church is, “For the Campus, For the City, For the Glory of God.” With that vision in mind our global vision and strategy exists to start Gospel Church Movements in the top 100 university cities in the world.

Our Church exists to worship and glorify God, love and disciple people, and reach and serve the world.

Mobilizing people to the unreached people groups around the world.

We help real people, with real problems, find the real love of Christ around the globe.

With grace, innovation, and integrity, we communicate awareness and opportunity to impact the world for Christ until His return.

Engage people, both locally and globally, to put Jesus first for the sake of others.

Our Church’s mission is, “Help people know, love, and obey Jesus.” Our global department exists to extend that love to university students amongst the nations.

We exist to multiply disciples and churches globally, mobilizing every believer to live out their roles in the Great Commission, so that all peoples everywhere might worship King Jesus.

Our Church exists to share the gospel and our lives for the glory of God and the good of our city. As the global department of our church, we seek to spread the name of Jesus to all nations. We seek to involve the entire church in God’s heart for the nations as we gather, give, and go.

To see God glorified through the establishment, strengthening, and multiplication of indigenous churches, especially among unreached peoples.

To plant and fully establish local churches worldwide.

To see every person at our church become actively involved in international ministries and to see God raise up indigenous, self-sustaining, reproducing churches in targeted regions of the world.

To raise up, equip, and send out long-term missionaries from within our church to unreached people groups.

Next Steps

The journey toward sending well happens one step at a time. Here are a few ways you can continue moving toward a compelling vision for your sending church:

  1. Do you know another church that has developed a missions vision statement? If so, ask one of their leaders to tell you about the process of forming it, how they communicated it to their members, and how it’s now being carried out.

  2. Download the Upstream resource “Worksheet for Developing Your Church’s Missions Vision” and begin working through the steps it suggests.

  3. Read chapter 3 in The Sending Church Applied for an overview of developing a vision for missions and sending.
