Assessment and Development Cohort | Spring 2025

We believe that the local church is best positioned for preparing its people to be sent cross-culturally with the gospel. Yet this requires a discipleship process that provides holistic assessment and development of missionary candidates (follow the links for more on these terms). Though missions organizations have historically led this process, and still have much to contribute, local churches can learn to take the primary responsibility. This cohort will help you do that!

In response to the request of many church leaders, we are launching this specialized online cohort in February 2025. It will be led by executive director of Upstream Sending, Nathan Sloan. Drawing from his doctorate of missiology on the subject of assessment and development in the context of the local church, as well as his years of experience as a missions pastor, Nathan will provide two 3-hour workshops for cohort participants. These workshops will then be followed by two group calls and one 1-on-1 coaching call led by Upstream leaders, Larry McCrary, Dave Childers, and Bradley Bell.

What cohort participants can expect:

• Robust teaching on the principles and practices of assessment and development
• Clarity on the profile of an ideal missionary and characteristics to look for
• Group activities such as case studies and a live assessment
• Tutorial on writing effective personal development plans
• Personalized coaching to apply what they learn to their unique church context
• A folder of resources to help build and execute a sending process

The introductory workshops will take place on Tuesday, February 4th and Thursday, February 6th. The two group calls and one coaching call will be scheduled in March and April.

The cost of the cohort is $750 per participant and enrollment is limited to 7-10 participants. If you would like to have more than one representative from your church, the subsequent participant rate is $100 per person. You can register them using the code Cohort100.
